It all started out so beautifully. You flirted, started dating, and everything seemed to be going perfect for awhile. Now however, something feels different. What is it? What went wrong? Are your feelings a sign it’s time to break up?
These feelings are normal. This post discusses five signs it’s time to break up and includes the free quiz “Should I Break Up with my Boyfriend?” Hopefully this will give you guidance to figure out the next step in your relationship. So, here we go, five signs it’s time to break up. Please read all the way to the end of the post for extra resources as well!
1. Either of you seem less interested in the relationship
- Have either of you stopped putting in as much time and effort into the realtionship? Time and effort are signs of interest and if either of you have been slacking, it shows that you’re not as interested in the relationship as you once were.
- Do you find yourself not wanting to hang out as much? Is hanging out or going on dates not as fun as it used to be? Are you generally bored in the relationship? If these are true, it may be time to end it.
2. He is pushing you towards something you don’t want to do
- If he’s pushing you to do anything sexual or trying to move your relationship in that direction, you need to go ahead and break up. That’s a sign of major disrespect.
- This does not always have to be physical. In high school, I dated a guy that was pushing me to stay in Illinois for college, but I always knew that I would go back to Tennessee. The more he pushed, the more I drifted away and eventually ended things.
3. More fighting/ less peace
- Do you have more bad days than good? Do you seem to argue more or feel tense when you’re around your boyfriend? If so, you are headed towards the inevitable end.
4. Either of you seem interested in someone else
- Have you suddenly noticed that the boy a few lockers down is cute? What about the guy in math class that you’ve all of a sudden started to notice? If your eyes have started to wander, it is a sign that you are bored in your relationship or want out.
- You may have noticed him doing the same thing. Even if you don’t want to break up and you notice his eyes start to wander, bite the proverbial bullet and break up. There is no sense in being strung along until he finds someone else.
5. They begin engaging in behavior that you disagree with
- This mainly pertains to ungodly behavior. Has he stated to engage in sinful activity? No matter what, you CANNOT go down that path with him. You will not save him, only God can do that.
- This doesn’t automatically have to be sinful activity. If you see behaviors starting to manifest that you disagree with or get on your nerves, it may be time to reevaluate the relationship.
