At least once a year, I try to compile a list of books that have come out over the past year, and a few of my favorites, for teenagers to read. Since teens usually have some time in the summer (and I know they allllllllllllll want to spend it reading…haha) I have compiled the list for 2019!
Hopefully you will find one that interests you. There is also a list of books at the bottom of the post in case you want to see more.
Also, most every link on this post is an Amazon Affiliate link. This means that if you purchase a book through the link, that we make a small commission that helps us run the site at no cost to you.
Here we go!
Sex, Purity, and the Longings of a Girl’s Heart
From the authors of Love Defined and Girl Defined comes Kristen Clark and Bethany Beal’s newest book Sex, Purity, and the Longings of a Girl’s Heart.
This book tackles many questions about our God given sexuality and the description is as follows:
“For the modern Christian woman living in today’s sexually charged society, embracing God’s design for sex and purity can often feel like an impossible pursuit. As the culture seeks to normalize things such as pornography, erotica, and casual sex, both single and married women of all ages feel immense pressure to conform. With alluring temptations constantly inviting them to join in, they might even begin to question whether God’s design is truly good…
In this encouraging book, Kristen Clark and Bethany Beal share honestly about their own struggles and victories, and invite women on a personal journey to discover and reclaim a biblical vision for their sexuality. Kristen and Bethany help women understand why God’s design for sexuality is good, relevant, and leads to true hope and lasting freedom.”
From the table of contents, you can tell that they tackle the tough and often taboo topics. Click here or the links above to learn more.
Unplanned
The book Unplanned: The Dramatic True Story of a Former Planned Parenthood Leader’s Eye-Opening Journey across the Life Line tells the story of Abby Johnson. She is a former Planned Parenthood director turned pro-life advocate and this book relays the story.
Even if you saw the movie, I think the book is still something worth reading. Her story is important for everyone to read who wants to be more educated about the realities of the abortion industry.

Warriors Don’t Cry
Warriors Don’t Cry: A Searing Memoir of the Battle to Integrate Little Rock’s Central High was an eye-opening and faith grown book for me as a teenager.
The book relays the real life story Melba Pattillo, one of the nine black students to first integrate Little Rock’s Central High School. To see her struggle and dependence on God through it all is amazing.
This book impacted me so much, I actually went to Little Rock to see the school and visit the museum.
I hope everyone gets a chance to read this book at one point in their lives. Click here or above to learn more.

Lies Girls Believe
I am a big fan of the book Lies Young Women Believe, and this year, one of the co-authors of that book wrote Lies Girls Believe: And the Truth that Sets Them Free.
With young girls today being exposed to more negative messages because of our culture and the proliferation of social media, I am so excited that Dannah Gresh took the time to write a book for younger audiences.
There is also a guide for mothers as well. If you have a young daughter, don’t skip this one! Click here or above to learn more.
Evangephobia
If you’ve followed this blog for any length of time, you know that I highly recommend the resources at YM360.com. While scanning their website the other day, I noticed the Evangephobia Devotional and knew I had to add it to my list.
Here’s the description, “Do your teens suffer from evangephobia? When they have opportunities to talk to people about Jesus, does their heart beat faster, do they start to feel queasy, and do their knees and spine become weak?
Here’s some good news if they suffer from evangephobia: It’s a treatable condition! With a little help, they can discover how to talk about God naturally in normal conversations and learn how to explain the gospel in a clear, compelling way. And they’ll discover a passion for reaching their friends with God’s good news.”

So, You Think You’re Ready to Date?
A few years ago, my niece was getting close to dating age. I knew there was so much she needed to know and I couldn’t really find anything Biblically based that was up to date and included things like social media and sexting. So, I wrote one for her!
So, You Think You’re Ready to Date?: The Complete Must Read Guide to Teenage Dating is full of quizzes, questionnaires, real life scenarios, and Biblical truth that lays a foundation for healthy romantic relationships. If you are a teen or parent of a teen that’s close to dating age, please click here to learn more about it! (P.S. I updated it in June of 2020).
