***Updated December 2020***
Do you love Christmas music?! I hope so! Today, I wanted to write a short post about five Christmas songs you need to have in your holiday playlist.
While decorating my house for Christmas and streaming music, I have found a few new Christmas songs that I love as well as traditional songs that have almost brought me to tears. I’m going to list them below with links to their YouTube videos. Enjoy!
We’ll start with the non-traditional songs first…
Five Christmas Songs for your Playlist
“O Holy Night” Sung by Jordan Smith
Jordan Smith is an amazing vocalist and his rendition of this song is honestly my favorite. I hope you enjoy :).
“Go Tell it on the Mountain” – Anthem Lights
Go, tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and everywhere
Go, tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born!
I sang this song FOR YEARS in church and never gave much thought to the lyrics. As I think of how exciting that night must have been, I just envision them RUNNING and SHOUTING with JOY to the people on the mountains! The birth of Christ and the power of his resurrection is GOOD NEWS and news that we should share this holiday season and all year long.
“Silent Night” by: The Oak Ridge Boys
Confession time. We listened to the Oak Ridge Boys Christmas tape innumerable times growing up. I’m not sure if people who weren’t raised on it will like it, but I love it. I like it the best because it includes the scripture of Jesus’ birth.
“O Come, All You Unfaithful” by Sovereign Grace Music
This song is the first release off of Sovereign Grace’s new Christmas album. I don’t know if it’s just me, or this crazy year of 2020, but the video made me cry. Enjoy.
“Mary Did You Know?” by: Mark Lowry
In case you didn’t know, Mark Lowry actually wrote this song and no one sings it like him. I get chills every time I hear him sing it with the Gaither Vocal Band. This video is obviously dated, but the vocals and talent are definitely not!
In Closing
I hope these songs help put you in the Christmas spirit. This is the time to celebrate God’s gift of Jesus to us and to share that with those around us. People who don’t know God are more receptive to the gospel message during the Christmas season than any other time of year. Can you think of anyone you could invite to church or a church event? Do it!!
Also, I have two books that go along with the Christmas season. The first is For Unto Us: A 15 day devotional tracing Christ’s birth from prophecy to the manger. Click here, or the graphic below to learn more!
The second is called The Special Wreath which is an Advent book for kids. Click here to see more!
Thank you for reading and please share!
