The Coronavirus has affected all of us to some degree, whether it be a job loss, contracting the actual virus, not being in school, working from home, or being socially distant or isolated.
During this time of uncertainty, I have seen many posts suggesting songs and Bible verses for this time. Taking the cue, I wanted to offer the ones that have been helpful to me. I hope they are helpful to you too.
Four Songs
“Fear Not Tomorrow” by The Collingsworth Family
One thing about me is that I love families that sing together. I grew up singing with my family; it is special to me.
This song by the Collingsworth Family is so comforting and reminds us that no matter what tomorrow may bring, God is already there. If you only pick one song to listen to on this list, pick this one!
“The Haven of Rest”
The family mentioned above has a big family reunion every year and during part of it, they sing together. The song they are singing is an hymn called “The Haven of Rest”. It reminds me of the true rest and peace we have in Christ.
I just love this version because I MISS MY FAMILY!! We all live in the same town and being “socially distant” because of Coronavirus is really hard. I just love watching this because I like the song and helps remind me that I’ll be with my family again when all this is over.

“Psalm 46” by Shane & Shane
Honestly, I love this one because it just reminds me of God’s power, control, and that he really is with us.
“I Need Thee Every Hour”
This is another classic hymn that is dear to my heart. Sometimes, I can get overwhelmed with how this is all going to play out. When my anxiety is especially high, I am reminded that it’s OK to need God EVERY HOUR. Being dependent on him is not a weakness, but a comfort indeed.
Bible Chapter: Psalm 33
There are SO MANY Psalms and Bible verses that could bring comfort in this situation, but this one is particularity comforting to me. If you can, read the entire chapter out loud.
1 Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!
Praise befits the upright.
2 Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
3 Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.
4 For the word of the Lord is upright,
and all his work is done in faithfulness.
5 He loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.
6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
7 He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap;
he puts the deeps in storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord;
let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!
9 For he spoke, and it came to be;
he commanded, and it stood firm.
10 The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;
he frustrates the plans of the peoples.
11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever,
the plans of his heart to all generations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!
13 The Lord looks down from heaven;
he sees all the children of man;
14 from where he sits enthroned he looks out
on all the inhabitants of the earth,
15 he who fashions the hearts of them all
and observes all their deeds.
16 The king is not saved by his great army;
a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.
17 The war horse is a false hope for salvation,
and by its great might it cannot rescue.
18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him,
on those who hope in his steadfast love,
19 that he may deliver their soul from death
and keep them alive in famine.
20 Our soul waits for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
21 For our heart is glad in him,
because we trust in his holy name.
22 Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us,
even as we hope in you.
This Psalm is so helpful because it reminds me of the following:
- Verse 1 reminds me to sing to the Lord. When I do, I always feel better.
- Verses 4-9 remind me of the sheer enormity of God and how powerful he is.
- Verses 10-11 (as well as 16-17) show us that as humans, we can only do the best we can, but it is in no comparison to God. We NEED him to help us through this.
- Verses 12-15 relay that God is watching over us.
- Verses 18-22 is truly my prayer. That I hope in the Lord. That he has already saved by “soul” from death, regardless of what happens to my body.
In Closing
I know many of us have a sense of anxiety, worry, or unease about Coronavirus and how it will all end. I hope you found something in this post helpful as we cope with this together.
All my love,
-Sarah
