***Update 2021: The question, “Will God forgive me for sexting” is the most “google searched” question that leads people to our site…if you are looking for the answer to that question, CLICK HERE.***
Maddie sat in her bedroom with her phone debating what to say. She had been crushing hard on a guy named Austin and they had been talking for a couple months. A few minutes before, she received a text from Austin that said, “Since we’ve been talking for awhile now, I’d like to get to know you even more. Can you send me pics?”
She knew she should tell him no, but she was feeling a whirlwind of emotions and wasn’t sure exactly how to put it in writing. She knew if she simply said, “no,” he would respond with, “Why not” and didn’t know how to explain it.
Have you or a friend ever been in Maddie’s situation?
Let’s be honest here. The “photos” we’re talking about are nudes or semi-nude pictures, and there’s a growing number of guys asking for them. So how do you answer the “Why not?” question without stumbling?
How to Respond to “Photo” Requests
I’m so glad you asked. Recently, I ran across this video by Emily Wilson on YouTube and had to share. She lays out a great plan and what to say. Below I will break it down into parts so you can clearly create your own.

A Breakdown of What to Say
Here’s a template to use:
- Dear ____________,
- I do not send photos because_____________________________________.
- You obviously do not value me as a person so there is no need to continue in this relationship.
- Please do not contact me again.
Be direct & expect insults
As Emily says, there’s no reason to tip toe around the issue or want to save his feelings. It’s clear that if he’s asking you for photos, he merely sees you as an object to be used and only “cares” about your feelings to get what he wants.
Be direct in what you’re saying. Do not over explain yourself or make up excuses.
Afterwards, you can either expect insults or no response at all. If he chooses the insulting route, ignore him/block him from your phone. You seriously do not need him in your life.

UPDATE FOR 2020:
Every month, I receive an e-mail from Google relaying the top search terms that bring traffic to this site. In May 2020, the third most “search term” was, “Will God forgive me for sexting.” Since you may have ended up here by typing that question, I wanted to answer it below!
- Yes, God will forgive you. However, that does not give you a license to sext just because, “God will forgive me later.” It is something you must repent from, and then stop doing it.
- You need to ask God for His forgiveness, and set up ways to prevent doing this in the future. Maybe you need an accountability partner. Perhaps a phone by Gabb Wireless would help (you can’t send pictures).
- Just know you are not alone, and you DO NOT have to do it ever again!
