Do you know much about Mormonism? Maybe you’ve seen their commercials and advertising on YouTube or even had missionaries come to your door. Susan and I had only come into contact with one Mormon family our entire lives, so needless to say, we didn’t know much.
Now, through missionaries reaching out to us on social media and then in real life, we took a dive into their beliefs, and we were genuinely shocked by how different Mormonism, or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is from Christianity. After all we have learned, we wanted to make a post of the most helpful resources we found to help us understand the Mormon religion and how to evangelize them more effectively. It will be split up into videos, books, and then a podcast. Scroll on!
Videos to understand Mormonism
Ok, so the video below is a little “tongue in cheek” but it is the shortest video that is accurate in summarizing the most basic beliefs of Mormonism. If you scroll through the comments, even Mormons will say the same thing; the video is about 4 minutes long.
This is a longer video that was made by a woman named Lynn Wilder, who was a Mormon for decades before God opened her eyes to the truth. It is extremely well done and worth the time to watch.
Helpful books about Mormonism

One of the most helpful books was Passport to Heaven: The True Story of a Zealous Mormon Missionary Who Discovers the Jesus He Never Knew. It is a testimony by a man named Micah Wilder who was saved while on his Mormon mission. It gives you an insight to what missions are like and his journey of God opening his eyes to the truth. Another book that was recommended by a local pastor is titled The Kingdom of the Cults: The Definitive Work on the Subject. This does a much deeper, intellectual dive into Mormonism as well as other cults. It would be a good reference guide to have on hand or at your church for those that may be interested. Helpful podcast about Mormonism
Cultish is a podcast that discusses many cults and people who have come out of them. In this episode, they interview Micah Wilder, who wrote the book Passport to Heaven listed above. If you are a podcast listener, this ones for you!
