What is “missionary dating”?

Have you ever heard someone say, “I’m dating so and so and I am going to help bring him to the Lord”? Have you ever considered dating a non-Christian and hoped he would become a Christian because of it?

This is something that Susan and I deem “missionary dating.” It essentially means that you are dating someone in hopes of bringing them to the Lord, or you just really want to date them and hope you’re Christianity “rubs off” on them. In our vlog we explain three reasons that this doesn’t really work. Do not misunderstand us, it is important to reach the lost, but the dating field is not the mission field.

Would you rather attend a sporting event, or a concert or whatever interests you, in person or listen to it on the radio alone?

What about vacation? Would you rather go alone or with someone/other people?

Think about the holiday season we just finished. Would it have been as enjoyable if you were alone?

In general, people make events more enjoyable and exciting. Think of the football games you see on TV. Could you imagine no one being in the stadium and people watching alone at their house on a device. How boring.

Christmas truly is a wonderful time of the year. It’s generally filled with events, food, time off from school, and time with family. It should also be used as a time for us to draw closer to God.

If you’ve grown up in a Christian home, you also know that “Jesus is the reason for the season.” However, it can be hard to keep this at the forefront of our minds due to the busyness of the season and the familiarity of the story of Christ’s birth.

If we’re not careful, we can slide through the entire season and not know more about the miraculous story of Christ’s birth or draw closer to God.
